Top Ten Video Games That Surprised Me:

(these aren't my top 10 games, they're the games that surprised me. Not only that, but this isn't a complete list, it's just the top 10)

10. Metal Gear Solid 3
MGS3 wow-ed me. I was quite a fan of MGS2 and MGS, but I expected the same-ol same-ol once I touched MGS3. At first, it felt kinda' the same. And if I rushed through it, it would've just felt like a semi-enhanced MGS2 in jungle settings. But I play games slowly, and take my time (you don't know how long I spent in MGS2 just taking pictures of things). So I felt the impact of how different MGS3 was. The MGS series would sometimes not take itself seriously, but MGS3 took it to a whole new dimension.
Its ridiculously dramatic and cheesy humor was over-the-top to those who took the time to actually think about it. It gave the game a whole different feel, and it almost felt like I was playing a really awesomely-ridiculous cartoon/anime! Ah, it was sooo good. And in the end? The ending just hit me hard, got me crying. That was an extra surprise.

09. Demon's Souls
Unlike other people, I didn't think Demon's Souls was the hardest thing ever. I've played tougher games. ...I've played A LOT of MUCH TOUGHER games. So it was a disappointment on that part.
But no, that's not what surprised me about the game. What surprised me were two things---
One: It was an actually PLAYABLE medieval-esque game where it wasn't a hack-and-slash or a turn-based-esque system! I've played tons of medieval games, and most of them are either hack-and-slashes or intricate battles. Boring. There were too many games like that already.
Demon's Souls could be considered a hack-and-slash, especially when you go bull-crazy with high strength and hp. But the fact is: Hacking and slashing will get you killed in the game. You HAVE to block, you HAVE to dodge, you HAVE to time things or you WILL DIE. ...I haven't played a game like that since Way of the Samurai, and that's in Japan, so I'm glad a medieval-type game not-based-in-Japan was playable and realistic exists. Here's one more thing that sets it apart: The enemies do as much damage to you as you would do to them depending with what they're equipped with. ...such a relief, unlike other games where enemies are either all impossibly-as-tough or weak-as-leaves but in large numbers.
Two: It was an MMO that wasn't an MMO. You don't know how much I love how MMORPGs play. Problem is: They need the internet. If my net were to go out in a storm or someone was stealing my speed: No MMORPGs for me. So finally! An MMO-esque game that DOESN'T NEED THE NET! THANK YOU!
So yeah, it was friggin' awesome. Quite a nice surprise.

08. Capcom VS SNK 2
The first Fighting game I ever was good at. Most fighting games are awesome, but I've never really felt comfortable with any characters in them. But for some reason, the choices in CVS2 felt right to me. Of course, it also let me branch out more, made me more willing to try other fighting games. Got me to loving Rival Schools, Virtua Fighter 4, and of course Tatsunoko VS Capcom. Other fighting games are pretty good as well, but I never find my groove in them.
So yeah, CVS2 surprised me and got me into fighting games.

07. Fable
I had no idea what Fable was. I wasn't looking at any video game news at the time.
So while everyone was disappointed by the overhyping, I actually enjoyed the game!
I was quite wow-ed with what I could do with the game. It felt like they could've done a lot more, mind you, but what surprised me was that it was extremely unique to me! I've never played a game like it. Not so much the RPG-adventuring part, but the whole walk-from-town-to-town and being able to not only attack the villagers, but be attacked for it! Then fined. Then buying the house and renting it out to people. ...then totally spending all the rent money on pub games! And the pub games were quite fun.
It was quite surprising for me to play a game like this.

06. GTA 2
Simply put: I've never played a game like that until I played it.
And it was friggin' AWESOME.
GTA 3 was special to me because I loved GTA 2 and was looking forward to GTA 3 for a long time.
GTA 3 didn't come out as "a surprise to me" because I kept up to news with it... with the old and slow internet back then.
But yeah, GTA 2 was friggin' awesome. Senseless and immature violence, but I know the difference between this and reality.
And while people say that GTA 3-Vice City-San Andreas-GTA 4 was all about violence, no it wasn't. You could do so much more in those games. GTA 2, GTA, and GTA London were AAALLLLLL ABOUT violence! Ah~ Good ol' GTA 2.

05. Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's Wheelie Breakers
I wasn't really fond of any Yu-Gi-Oh series that came out after the first. At the same time, I wasn't really fond of the card game due to how complicated it got without having a pen and paper. And at the same time, I wasn't really fond of the bad-quality 3rd party games that were coming out for the Wii.
However, I did like the first Yu-Gi-Oh series and I haven't really looked at 5Ds, so I was willing.
However, I did like the idea of the Yu-Gi-Oh video games as it made things easier (and I have played some prior to playing this one).
And However, I did like a good number of 3rd party games on the Wii, and I was willing to give this one a try.

Afterall, racing and card-battling? Sounded ridiculous enough to be good.

I wasn't so surprised the game was good, I kinda' expected it. I was more surprised that the races got intense at times!
Though all racing games can get rather intense, I never really expected the card-game part to be good enough to MAKE it intense.
I'm used to Mario-Kart type games, I've played tons of them. But this felt entirely different.
Though the game is a bit blocky-in-feel, and they could've done a lot more with the card battling, it was a great game on its own!
I was pretty darn surprised when I played it more and more. So it deserves to be up here.

04. MySims (series)
I hyped MySims to insanity. I wanted to play MySims so much.
The entire game felt like The Sims, but extremely casualized. People may say they made it kiddy- but most kids don't do too well with customization games. In that sense, I never considered it kiddy.
The idea of an extremely casualized The Sims has its charms in the fact that you could pick it up at any time and do whatever the hell you wanted and turn it off anytime you wanted. Sure, the challenge disappears and the sinful pleasures of burning the house down would definitely disappear as well, but there's The Sims for that. What's wrong with wanting it in a different form?
The game wasn't exactly how I imagined it once I got it, but it quite surprised me once I saw how much I could customize things.
But that's not where the surprise was for me. What surprised me was the continuation of the franchise!
MySims would go to a slowdown at times because of how much you added to it, so it felt like that's the most you could do with MySims.
MySims Kingdom simplified things, added a bit more complexity, and added much more cutesy silly humor that made it all the characters much more memorable. MySims Party kinda' sucked (bad Motion controls), but the idea of forming specialized teams was pretty neat. MySims Racing was a so-so Mario-Kart-esque racing game with limited customization but it gave the characters more--- character. And finally MySims Agents practically took out most of the customization but fused it with specialized teams from MySims Party and added much more character to the lovable characters. And a new one is coming out as we speak! The MySims series has become a unique Wii franchise now! What a surprise that its become a whole new addition to gaming franchises that gives things most games cannot!
I give it a clap and applause. I love this series.

03. Monster Rancher
...seriously, I shouldn't even explain this one.
Number One, this was my first experience with a monster-breeding and raising game. For most North Americans, it was as well (unless you were late to the party).
Number Two, GETTING MONSTERS FROM CDs?!! You know how many CDs I went through???? Counting MR, MR 2, MR 3, MR 4, and MR Evo I'm probably over a thousand! Literally! It's so addictive just to see what monster comes from what CD!
...this revolutionized my taste in games, as it added the raising-breeding-battling genre to me. Sure there was Pokemon, but Pokemon's practically its own genre - this was a different -- er-- Monster.
If you haven't played Monster Rancher, get the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. 4 and Evo are a bit -- odd in taste. Though there is one coming out for the DS soon.

02. Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2
A fighting game that had the most characters I've ever seen, and probably during its existence.
Not only that, but an over-the-shoulder fighting game that you could fly around and specialize with blasts, combos, and specials.
...not to stop there: But there were tons of "useless characters" in it that had strengths that no others had if you tried them long enough.
This game was a surprise... I've played tons of other DBZ games out there, but nothing like this. And strangely enough, once played with long enough, the Wiimote+Nunchuk felt natural as heck with it. ...after I got Raging Blast, I was quite disappointed at how the game felt entirely different and stale because of the not-Wiimote+Nunchuk.
DBZBT3 was pretty amazing too, but having already played DBZBT2, there wasn't much surprise.

01. RPG Maker 2
...I didn't have a powerful PC when I first played RPG Maker for the Playstation. So while others were playing the PC versions of RPG Maker and making tons of amazing games, I've never played such a thing before. RPG Maker for the Playstation was pretty good, but it was pretty limited at the same time. Now wows there.
RPG Maker 2?
......... holy sh**! The amount you could do in RPG Maker 2 BLEW MY MIND. You could do SO MUCH in the game. Heck it'll even surprise a lot of you now! It doesn't matter how amazing your hardware and software is now, the amount you could do with RPG Maker 2 would still blow your mind! ...unless you make games yourself. ...well even then, you may still find RPG Maker 2 amazing. RPG Maker 3 was a joke compared to it. And the RPG Makers on the PC are astoundingly better, but not set up for you like RPG Maker 2 is. If you're willing to take the time, yet have things set up for you, you'd be quite surprise what you could do in RPG Maker 2.

top 10 things I hate right now

1, Being nocturnal
I managed to not be nocturnal for a week (even I don't know how) but that soon changed. I mean going to sleep at 6 or 7am is enough to annoy anyone. Yet thats the time I feel sleep and I roll into my bed and then sleep for 12 or more hours T___T I should really get back on taking sleeping pills otherwise, my whole life will be ruined. Or maybe get a night job.. I wouldn't know where and what though @.@

2, Being Bored
I can think of things to do, yet I just never get round to doing them. Like on Deviant, I made a poll on who I should do as a piece of fan art and I dunno if I should start it yet....... Or should I play some games on the Wii/PSP (which I've finally gotten round to charging after not using it for so long.

3, For offically updating my PSP T___T
Its a bye bye to ISO's and I don't have a pandora battery to hack it T___T Solking hacked my PSP for me the first time so I have no clue on what to do. And I had Crisis Core on my memory stick too. I got back into playing it and now...... I CAN'T!!!

4, Being Unemployed
Ok it has it perks at times, but for the main reason: NO MONEY, tends to win over all. I've been asked to NYC for thanks giving this year (yeah been asked waaaaaaaaaaaaay in advance) but I don't have no way near enough money to go.

5, No New Manga Chapters to read
Well On MAL it says I'm following 38 different manga's.. which is really true. But I don't see any new chapters that I haven't read T____T This time last week, there was like 5 manga's with new chapters, this week........ NONE! I really really REALLY REALLY REALLY want to read Kimi ni Todoke Chapters 36-39, which I know aren't translated yet but I still want to read them so much. but Katekyo Hitman Reborn chapters will managed to keep me occupied untill that happens.

6, Having no new movies to see
I would love to go and see Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland.. which isn't even out yet. But then again, its not like I even have the money to go to the cinema to go and see it, as well as someone who would go with me. I haven't spoken to my best friend in a month.... which I should really do.

7, SPAMMERS and Young Spammers at that
I know that AV has been lucky to have members who don't spam and know what it means to be a member on a forum. But its just on sites like AO and AnimeOST where kids seem to like to annoy everyone with pointless crap and don't have any point what so ever! They really need to be taught how to act online and not like some dumb idiot who can't read something that was last posted or even one simple rule "DO NOT SPAM!" Its there in rules for a reason, yet it somehow manages to vanish from their line of sight.

8, Getting Older
Recently I've found myself trying to have to explain to people who the hell Liza Mennelli is. I'm only 23 myself, yet I know who the hell she is! I even started to call 19 year olds "young folk" T___T how the hell can people who are 5 years younger than me, been in a different generation??? does being 5 years older really make that much of a difference or is really because I'm getting closer to 25 that my mind already things its gonna turn 40 soon?

9, A mother who has no sense of voice levels
Its like she is on a constant "loud" setting. Even if I sit next to her, she shouts! its no wonder that I listen to music loudly as I try to drown her out. But then she complains the music is too loud which is nothing compared to how loudly she talks. It really is annoying when your trying to have a decent conversation with someone and then my mother butts in really loudly T___T

10, ......I have no idea
I'm so confused sometimes that I even wonder how I've managed to live for the past 23 year's. Its a huge mystery even in itself that I have some how managed to survive. I wake up from sleeping 12 hours straight even when I didn't mean to sleep that long. There goes my day in an instant. I really wish at times like these that I wasn't me but a fairly almost normal person.

Top Ten Animes I'm watching at the moment

1. Katekyo Hitman Reborn! - Well I've re-watch parts of it just because I love it so much!!! its one of the best airing Shonen Jump Animes around!! It doesn't have all those extra long fillers like Bleach or Naruto and it doesn't take like 5 episodes to show just one freaking fight!!!!!!

2. Durarara! - Best anime shown in Spring! Its crazy, interesting and has so many twists and turns that it keeps you wanting more after every episode!!

3. Working!! - Because it OnoD (Satou <33333), Hiroshi Kamiya (Souma), Jun Fukuyama (Souta) in it who are also in Durarara. I'm a fan of OnoD as he has one of those amazing voices that gets you hooked on their character.

4. Angle Beats - I was really interested in waiting to see it. As its by key and I liked their previous work and OMG it does not disappoint!! I really like Hiroshi Kamiya as Otonashi. I wasn't too sure at first but its just one of the characters that you can't help but love it. Although my fav character has to be;
Image
Takamatsu!!! - Not that the fact that he appears topless in the anime has a...n...y...t...h...i...n...g... to do with it :P

5. Hakuouki - Well with all those clothes revealing a mans chest.. what is there not to like :P well unless your a guy.. But its a good story.

6. Fairy Tail - The story is pretty interesting. And it has adorable characters like Natsu and Gray that really make you want to keep watching. I Even started to read the manga after watching like 15eps. And its kept pretty close to manga too ^__^

7. Kaichou wa Maid-Sama - I'm a lover of the manga. I was waiting to see what they did with it. I love it so far. bring the manga to life. And making Usui extra HOT in the ED.. OMG *nose bleed*

8. Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood - I know its almost over but its great to finally see the true story. I really do prefer this to the previous series. It all makes sense!!!!!! And Roy Mustang is such a cutie for Hawkeye.

9. Ichiban Ushiro no Diamaou - I know its a little ecchi in places but its a great comedy to watch for the laughs. And to totally laugh at someone's naivety.

10. Senkou no Night Raid - Although the subs might take a while to come. The First ep was really intriguing. Having those kinds of powers doesn't seem bad. But at the moment, its lacking something.... maybe its lacking the action it had in the first episode..
